Nice to see that you found a spot for Annihilator on your list. I can't stand the vocals on that album, but the music set a benchmark for me and my boys back when we thought we were the next Metallica. The guitar on Crystal Ann is one of the few things that I ever attempted but could never quite nail (that and everything by Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Vai, and, to a lesser extent, Joe Satriani -whose music I could get the notes to but could never make it sound the same anyway).

I guess I suck though, cause there are about ten or fifteen of the first fifty that I don't own. I am just not old enough to appreciate Who, The Rolling Stones and Grand Funk.

Great list though, at least it doesn't include dozens of bands that will be forgotten by this time next year (ala the Vh1 greatest metal bands of all time).

I notice a lack of Cacophony in the list though. Did you run out of room, or is that just not your thing?

I think you missed a couple of mighty ones.

What about

Mercyful Fate - Don't break the Oath
Helstar - first album
Nasty Savage - first album
Testament - The Legacy
Judas Priest - Painkiller

and the one that started it for me, but they turned into total morons

Kiss Alive!
